When people think about international tax filing, they often imagine it’s only for large corporations or extremely wealthy individuals. But in reality, everyday people, such as students, researchers, remote workers, and small business owners, are dealing with global income and cross-border tax obligations. And many of them don’t know where to turn for help.
That’s exactly why we launched a new international tax services line at Donovan CPAs: to support the real people navigating complex tax situations.
We want to make international taxes less intimidating.
How International Tax Experience Shaped This Service
Before joining Donovan CPAs, Archana Merani built expertise in international taxation and transfer pricing at EY and KPMG in India, supporting U.S. and Asian companies with cross-border reporting. She also worked at a mid-sized Indian firm providing tax support to U.S.-based CPA firms.
Archana loved the complexity of the work, but she also saw how intimidating international taxes could be for individuals who didn’t have a team of professionals behind them.
When she moved to Indiana, Archana quickly realized that few local firms offered international tax support. Most of the market was dominated by the Big Four, who typically work only with high-net-worth individuals or large multinational companies.
So where did that leave someone who just needed help filing an expat return or claiming a treaty exemption?
That gap is what inspired her to build something new. And the team at Donovan CPAs empowered her to follow her passion.
Indiana’s Hidden Need for International Tax Help
You might not think of Indiana as a hub for international tax activity, but it absolutely is.
It has a large concentration of international professionals working at companies like Toyota, Eli Lilly, and Cummins to name a few. There are researchers, engineers, and fellows who’ve come here from Japan, Germany, Australia, and beyond. At the same time, many U.S. citizens work or retire overseas but still need to meet their U.S. tax obligations.
It’s not just individuals. Foreign companies are also establishing manufacturing operations in Indiana. As the economy grows and multinational corporations expand, cross-border tax complexities increase. At Donovan CPAs, we help clients navigate these challenges, from managing their taxes to identifying state and local incentives that could benefit them. Think of us as your local guide with international tax expertise.
Yet, despite the demand, few firms in Indiana can help clients file accurately, claim the right tax credits, or take advantage of treaty benefits. At Donovan CPAs, we saw this gap as an opportunity, and we’re here to fill it.

Why Now Is the Time to Launch Expat and Foreign Tax Support
International tax filing is no longer just for global corporations. With the rise of remote work, international travel, and investment mobility, more people are earning income across borders. Many don’t realize they’re still required to file U.S. taxes on foreign earnings. Or, they discover this too late and face penalties or missed opportunities for tax relief.
That’s why now is the right time to launch this service. We want to make it easier for people to file correctly, claim the credits they deserve, and feel confident about their global tax picture.
