“BJ has great analytical ability when dealing with business situations that require evaluating different scenarios. He communicates in a courteous way to propose and implement solutions. After all these years, I can say that to me, BJ was not only considered as a service provider to this company, but personally, I think of him as a trusted friend. ”
– David Jaramillo
BJ spent the first five years of his professional career at a large regional CPA firm and the following five years at a mid-sized local firm in Indianapolis. He has served all types of businesses from large, publicly-traded clients to small locally-owned clients.
BJ is a Bulldog Alumnus. He received both his Masters in Professional Accountancy and Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Butler University. In 2015, BJ joined the Donovan team where he leads the firm’s Assurance Services Group and is a member of the leadership team. He is responsible for audits, reviews, compilations and consulting with clients in all industries served by the firm.
BJ is passionate about developing young professionals and building an atmosphere of encouragement and support. He has a strong belief that staff development leads to retention, retention leads to opportunities and opportunities lead people to want to serve clients with excellence. The result of this is an accounting firm that people want to do business with and is recognized as a leader in the profession.
When he is not bringing a continuous improvement environment to the Donovan team, he can be found spending time with his family. As a husband and father, BJ starts and ends everyday with his family’s best interests in mind. If he is able to sneak away for a bit, BJ also likes to get lost in a long run or good book, especially one by Malcolm Gladwell.
If BJ adds a Beatles lyric or Seinfeld quote to a conversation, it’s because he believes they fit into any situation. He also enjoys using his right brain and letting his inner artist out. He draws pencil portraits, paints murals on walls, and sketches caricatures of unsuspecting people.
BJ is heavily involved in the community and he currently serves as the Treasurer for First Meridian Heights Presbyterian Church and on the Executive Committee of the Alumni Association for Lambda Chi Alpha at Butler University. He is also a member of the Indiana CPA Society and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. In the past, BJ has also served as a member of the Finance Committee for Fairbanks, and on the Emerging Leaders Alliance and Leadership Cabinet for the Indiana CPA Society.
